COLCHESTER.>

Overview

> Colchester is Britain’s oldest recorded Roman town, a town that exudes history, culture and creativity. This thriving university town has a population of 160,000 and demonstrates a dynamic and exciting urban lifestyle.

Colchester offers a diverse range of modern and historic cultural activities to take part in, from the Colchester Arts Centre. To the wonders of the Norman castle set in the beautiful Castle Park.

An exciting programme of exhibitions, lectures, films and events takes place at Firstsite, Colchester’s spectacular venue for world class contemporary arts. The continually expanding town is home to a fantastic range of visual art organisations, with further investment in Colchester evident through the number of new creative projects  being realised. All this has helped to create a dynamic local art scene.

The Mercury Theatre is a nationally recognised venue, with quality performances staged during the year. During 2017, independent  art house cinema Curzon built its first cinema located outside of London, in the Cultural Quarter  on Queen Street in Colchester.

Colchester offers an abundance of shopping facilities from independent and vintage boutiques along the historic lanes to the familiar retailers of the High Street. The town provides a broad range of options for your interests and styles when it comes to its abundant cafe culture and eateries. Colchester has a vibrant night life, with a mixture of traditional pubs and contemporary clubs and bars.
